The Government of Yukon announces increased funding to support the sport community

The Government of Yukon is pleased to announce two forms of increased funding to benefit the Yukon’s vibrant sports community. This funding will support Yukon organizations and athletes as they pursue their passion for sport.

The Government of Yukon increased Sport Yukon’s 2023–24 operational funding with a one-time increase of $130,000 to better enable the organization to prepare for upcoming major games. This funding will also support Sport Yukon’s inclusive and accessible initiatives, support staffing costs, and fund the development of sport across the territory.

The Government of Yukon is also working with Sport Yukon to launch the Sport Enhancement Fund. Sport Yukon will receive a one-time payment of $150,000 to establish and administer the Sport Enhancement Fund, which will be distributed to sports governing bodies to help with operational and equipment costs.

Sport makes our communities more vibrant and it's great to see so many organizations supporting Yukon athletes and community groups as they pursue their love of the game. I look forward to seeing the impacts of this funding as we all cheer for our Yukon athletes!

Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn

We are extremely grateful to the Yukon government for this much needed additional funding. In the face of mounting operational costs and ever-increasing demand for programming across all sports, Yukon sport organizations are under enormous pressures that threaten the crucial work they do providing opportunities for the health and wellness of Yukoners. This extra funding will help relieve some of that pressure.
