Apply to fund a destination development project

The Rugged Apprentices program offers volunteers the opportunity to explore the Yukon while giving back to communities and local businesses. The volunteers will complete local improvement projects that will contribute to destination development. We're looking for projects that support the applicant’s community and promote sustainable tourism.

Examples of projects

Examples of projects and activities include:

  • trails and interpretive signs;
  • expansion or improvement of existing sites (for example, building picnic tables for parks);
  • signage projects (removing, replacing, or adding signage);
  • site cleanup (for example, cleaning up garbage and debris on the river or trails); and
  • campground development, upgrades or expansions.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are:

  • Yukon First Nations governments;
  • Yukon First Nations development entities;
  • Yukon municipal governments;
  • Yukon-based non-profits; and
  • Yukon-based businesses.

Funding-decision process

Applications will be assessed on your project’s:

  • impact on your community;
  • contribution to destination development and the tourism sector;
  • logistical and financial feasibility; and
  • potential to provide an excellent visitor experience for volunteers.

Application deadlines

The deadline to submit a project is 4:30 pm on April 17, 2023.
