What we’re working on: winter 2019–20

As we head in to the new year, it’s a good time review our projects and report on how we’ve been progressing since our last update in August.

Websites

Digital Standard

The Digital Standard is where we share all of our guidance and standards for digital service delivery. We’re in the process of selecting a vendor to update and finalize the guidance and modernize the platform. This work will begin this month. See the existing Digital Standard.

Elections Yukon website

We’re currently completing our security assessments and finalizing the content for this project. See the existing Elections Yukon website.

Yukon Legislative Assembly

This website launched as a public beta last October. We’re addressing some bug fixes, improving the overall site search and building a search for just Hansard. We expect these improvements to be live in early February.

Yukon.ca and related sites

We’re continuing to refine and make improvements to Yukon.ca. Specifically, we’ve been working to improve existing content types for:

  • document downloads;
  • single-page campaign sites;
  • places records;
  • news releases;
  • event listings;
  • multistep pages; and
  • department pages.

We’ve added a filter to the Yukon.ca search to help users find forms on the site.

We’ve also developed a new content type for multi-page sites. We’re in the testing stages and ultimately this is the solution so we can migrate the following websites to the eServices platform.

  • Better to know. We’re in the process of migrating this website. It provides youth with information about sexual health. We expect this work to be completed this winter. See the existing Better to know website.
  • Commissioner of Yukon. We’ll be working to migrate the Commissioner of Yukon website to the eServices platform this winter. See the existing Commissioner of Yukon website.
  • Conflict of Interest Commissioner. We hope to migrate this website this winter. See the existing Conflict of Interest Commissioner website.
  • Digital information and services blog. We’re working with vendors to get the new blog built. You can expect to see it launched this winter. For now, you can find all of the latest blog posts on our beta site.
  • EngageYukon. The existing EngageYukon website will be migrated to Yukon.ca. We’re in our code review process and hope to complete this migration in the next few months.
  • Geomatics website. We’re in the process of migrating Geomatics Yukon website content to Yukon.ca. Staff are working on writing their content. We expect to begin this migration this spring.
  • Sexualized assault response team. This will be a new website to support victims of sexualized assault. We’re in the process of building it on the eServices platform and expect it will be live this spring.
  • Yukon Chief Medical Officer of Health. We’re working on migrating this website to the eServices platform. We hope to have this work completed this winter.
  • Yukon Courts. We’re working to migrate the Yukon Courts website to the eServices platform. Our goal is to work on the website design and development this winter.

Open data

The open data website is where we house the government’s public datasets. The site launched in June 2019. We’re working to refine the publishing process, site features and add new datasets.

Services

We’re currently working with departments on the following services (listed alphabetically).

3rd party rentals

This online service is for vendors to participate in the annual tender for construction heavy equipment rentals. We’ve completed discovery and demonstrated the intake form at the Reverse Trade Show in Whitehorse in November. We’re aiming to launch this service this winter.

Class 1 minerals modernization

This service has been live since May 2017. We’re working on improving the service by enhancing the spatial features and streamlining the back office system.

Energy efficiency rebate service

This service will allow Yukoners to apply for an energy efficiency rebate online. If their application is approved, they can also use the service to find out about receiving their rebate. We’ve completed discovery work for this project and are now working on implementation options.

Event registration

We’re looking into 3rd-party solutions to facilitate online registration for government events.

Find a family doctor

This is a service for Yukoners to find or connect with a family doctor. We launched this service this past October. Visit this service.

Improve online access to all government services

We’re looking at options to streamline the process for citizens to sign into the government’s online services. Our request for qualifications went out this fall and we’re in the process of selecting a vendor.

Land titles modernization

This service will allow people to search land titles, send fees and register documents online.

Legislative drafting and publishing

This service will replace the legislation section of our old website. We’re currently working with a vendor to build this website. See the existing legislation pages.

Liquor licensing, inspections and permitting

This will be an online service for users and facilities where liquor is served or sold to apply for liquor licences and the government to approve, issue and enforce licences. This fiscal year we expect to have a vendor selected.

Proactive disclosure

The new ATIPP Act comes into effect this May. We’re working on options to publish the government’s open information online. We completed a service design workshop earlier this month and we’re looking to launch phase 1 of this work in the spring.

Professional and regulatory licensing system

Users will be able to apply for licences or view a list of licensed Yukon professionals. This past summer we learned about the requirements for the system and expect to have a vendor selected this fiscal year.

YuDriv system replacement

The government’s Transport Services Branch, City of Whitehorse Bylaw and the RCMP use multiple systems to do things like issue parking tickets or look up licence plate information. This system will replace them all. This is a 3-year project and we expect the public-facing web component in 2021.

YukonBids – eProcurement

This will be a new procurement system for the government. It will streamline the tendering process by providing users with better online tools. We’re getting a contract set up to begin work on this service.

Yukon driving mobile app

The public will be able to use this app to learn about Yukon features and amenities. We hope to launch the app this spring.

Yukon lobbyist registry

This service is where lobbyists will publish their lobbying activities. Anyone will be able to see who is lobbying the government and on what topic. We’re now working with a vendor to build this service. If you’d be interested in participating in usability tests for this service, email eservices@gov.yk.ca.

Student financial assistance

Students will be able to apply for financial assistance and government staff will use this service to approve and issue funding. This fiscal year we hope to develop the front end of this service and an internal beta site.
