Emergency status

A state of emergency was declared on March 27, 2020. It was extended for another 90 days on June 12, 2020.

Health care

  • Beginning July 15, health care professionals providing COVID-19 tests have an expanded set of symptoms to watch for in Yukoners who have not travelled outside the territory: https://yukon.ca/en/news/expanded-testing-criteria-covid-19
  • The stand alone respiratory assessment centre reopened on July 6.
  • Whitehorse General Hospital has changed its visiting policy. All admitted patients are now allowed one designated and consistent visitor.
  • Outdoor visits for long-term care residents are now permitted.
  • To help Yukoners at risk during this pandemic, vulnerable populations can now access mental health and social supports online.

Travel and borders

  • Starting July 1, residents of British Columbia and Yukon will be allowed to travel back and forth without the need to self-isolate for 14 days. Residents of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut will also be allowed to enter Yukon.
  • Additionally on July 1 residents of other parts of Canada can visit if they isolate in Whitehorse for 14 days.
  • Gatherings of up to 50 can take place and restaurants can operate at full capacity, both circumstances still require safe distancing
  • Individuals entering Yukon’s airports must wear a mask starting July 1.
  • The Government of Canada will now require temperature screenings for all passengers travelling to and from Canada.
  • Canada and the U.S. have extended the current border measures until July 21, keeping borders closed to non-essential travel.

  • Anyone entering Yukon must check in with an Enforcement or CBSA Officer and provide their destination, contact information, and declaration.
