We are inviting Yukon artists to develop public artwork for Whistle Bend Place in Whitehorse. Artwork will be commissioned and purchased in 3 streams.

  1. Call for artists: Fireplace Artwork Commission

    We are looking for an artist or team to develop artwork for the entrance of Whistle Bend Place. We will install this artwork above the fireplace at the entrance.

    Eligibility

    Individual Yukon artists as well as teams are eligible. Teams may include non-Yukon artists but must be led by a Yukon artist. Individual non-Yukon artists are not eligible.

    Deadline for submissions

    4 p.m. PST on September 19, 2019.

    How to participate

    This is a 2-stage selection process. To get involved in stage 1, participate in the Request for Qualifications. We will create a shortlist of candidates who fulfill the qualifications stated in the package. Artists and teams on this list will then be able to submit proposals in stage 2.

    Follow these steps

    1. Download the package or pick up a paper copy.
      • Download the package online from the Government of Yukon Tender Management System listing: Whistle Bend Place – Fireplace Artwork Commission. Sign up for an account using the link at the bottom of the listing. Once you have signed up, you can download the information.
      • Pick up a printed package at the Procurement Support Centre, Suite 101-104 Elliott Street in Whitehorse. We are open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Phone: 867-667-5385.
         
    2. Read and complete the package.
       
    3. Submit the package in person, by mail or courier to the Procurement Support Centre. We are open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    4. We will contact you with results and next steps for stage 2 by mid-October.
  2. Request for proposals: The Feature Wall

    We are asking for proposals for 12 commissions. The purpose is to create large artwork for feature walls in each of the residents' houses. The budget for each commission is $4,500.

    Eligibility

    Individual Yukon artists as well as teams can submit proposals. Teams may include non-Yukon artists but must be led by a Yukon artist. Individual non-Yukon artists are not eligible.

    1 p.m. PST on September 30, 2019.

    4. We will contact you with results in early November.
  3. Call for artwork: Hallways

    In fall 2019, there will be a call for artwork. The call will be for smaller, 2-D works and 3-D or relief works that can be framed and installed on the wall. This artwork will be displayed in hallways throughout the residents' houses. For this opportunity, $25,000 will be spent on the purchase of up to 60 works of art.
