Apply for the Direct Operating Grant for child care and day homes

The Direct Operating Grant provides funding to child care centres and day homes. This funding helps with ongoing operating and maintenance costs.

Who can apply?

Licensed child care centres and family day homes are eligible to apply for the Direct Operating Grant.

Child care centres

The Direct Operating Grant (DOG) assists licensed child care programs with operational costs. The amount of money paid to programs is based on a formula that considers 4 areas.

  • Enrolment: to promote consistent high quality early learning environments for children.
  • Building expenses: to provide a safe and healthy environment for children in child care centre settings.
  • Hot meal program: to provide nutritious meals to children in child care centre environments.
  • Staff training levels: to promote trained staff who can provide consistent quality care.

Family day homes

The Direct Operating Grant assists licensed family day home programs with operational costs. The amount of money paid to programs is based on a formula that considers 3 areas:

Enrolment: to promote consistent high quality early learning environments for children.
Hot meal program: to provide nutritious meals to children in day home environments.
Staff training levels: to promote trained staff who can provide consistent quality care.

Payment

If the forms for the previous quarter are received by the 5th of the month, then the grant payment is given on the 15th of each:

  • July;
  • October;
  • January; and
  • April.

How to apply

Child care centres or family day homes must complete each section of the grant application for each month.

Incomplete applications will be returned to the child care centre or family day home, often resulting in delayed payment.
