  1. About the Training Fund

    Yukon producers and technicians who want to develop their skills to create films, television programs and digital content can apply to the Training Fund.

    You can apply for funding for training in:

    • developing;
    • producing;
    • post-producing; and
    • marketing.

     

    Yukon non-profit organizations can apply for funding to offer training programs to Yukoners. The programs must increase opportunities for Yukoners to work in the film, television and digital production industries.

    Who can apply?

    Eligible applicants are:

    • Yukon residents; and
    • registered Yukon non-profit organizations.

    How much funding is available?

    Individuals can receive funding for 75 per cent of your approved cash expenses, up to a maximum of $10,000.

    Organizations can receive 75 per cent of your approved cash expenses, up to a maximum of $25,000.

    No more than 50 per cent of your total budget can be travel costs.

    Application deadline

    We'll accept applications starting May 16, 2022. We review applications on a 1st-come, 1st-served basis. The program is closed for the year once we've distributed all the available funds.


  2. Apply as a Yukon resident

    You can apply as Yukon resident if you've lived in the Yukon for at least 1 year (365 days) before applying.

    What projects are eligible?

    Eligible projects for Yukon residents include:

    • post-secondary coursework;
    • training offered by a qualified training provider, including mentorship;
    • training in key positions on a media production;
    • training with an established production company; and
    • a workplace internship with an established production company.

    What activities are not eligible?

    The program does not provide funding for:

    • attending conferences and annual general meetings;
    • training typically provided by an employer; and
    • general training that is not specific to the development, production, post-production or marketing of film, television or digital content, such as first-aid training.

    What costs can I receive funding for?

    The costs eligible for funding are:

    • tuition, required texts and consumable materials needed for:
      • post-secondary coursework;
      • short-term education such as workshops or training;
      • mentorship in key positions; and
    • travel and accommodation costs for short-term education.

     

    Costs you incur before submitting your application are not eligible.

    What do I need to apply?

    You must submit:

    • a completed and signed application form;
    • your resume outlining your experience in media production;
    • your budget for the project, including all of your sources of funding;
    • a 750 to 1,000-word statement describing:
      • why you want to do the training;
      • how the training relates to your career plans; and
    • a Yukon residency declaration.

  3. Apply as a Yukon non-profit organization

    To apply to the Yukon Training Fund, Yukon non-profit organizations must be:

    • registered and in good standing with Government of Yukon Corporate Affairs;
    • have a mandate to grow the Yukon’s media production industry; and
    • have a record of offering training programs to Yukoners.

    What projects are eligible?

    Short-term training programs for Yukoners involved in media production are eligible.

    What activities are not eligible?

    The program does not provide funding for:

    • attending conferences and annual general meetings;
    • training typically provided by an employer;
    • general training that is not specific to the development, production, post-production or marketing of film, television or digital content, such as first-aid training.

    What costs can an organization receive funding for?

    Registered Yukon non-profit organizations can receive funding for:

    • professional fees;
    • costs for renting a venue and equipment;
    • consumable products necessary for the delivery of the training;
    • marketing and promotional costs for the training program;
    • administration costs up to a maximum of 15 per cent of your budget; and
    • transportation, accommodation and per diems for visiting instructors.

     

    Costs you incur before submitting the application are not eligible.

    What do I need to apply?

    You must submit:

    • a completed and signed application form;
    • your budget for the project, including all of your sources of funding;
    • a description of:
      • the training program;
      • your target audience;
      • the intended results; and
    • the names and biographies of all instructors for the training program.
