    • science;
    • community;

    • charity.

    A society is often referred to as a non-profit or not-for-profit entity. This means it can be created for any lawful purpose other than carrying on a business for profit. Any money a society raises has to benefit the community as outlined in the society's purpose. Funds cannot benefit a society director or a member.
