  1. Determine if you're eligible

    All practical nurses in Yukon must hold a licence.

    Apply for a courtesy licence if you want to work in Yukon for the purpose of teaching or research and use the title courtesy practical nurse.

    We accept and process new applications on an ongoing basis. Courtesy licences are valid for the time requested by the applicant. We do not renew courtesy applications.

     

    Eligibility

    You can apply for a courtesy licence if you meet 1 of the following sets of requirements.

    • You've graduated from an approved licensed practical nursing (LPN) program and passed the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE).
    • You hold a current, full LPN licence in another Canadian jurisdiction and are in good standing in that jurisdiction.
    • You hold an international degree or diploma, and can demonstrate your education and competence is appropriate for the purpose of your visit to Yukon.

     

  2. Complete the application form

    Complete all sections of the application form. Do not leave a section blank. If a section is not relevant, mark the section as “not applicable.”

     

  3. Provide all required supporting documents

    Current photo ID

    • Provide 1 copy of a piece of photo ID.
    • The ID must be issued by a territorial, provincial or federal government body.
    • The ID must show your current legal name.
    • We do not accept a healthcare card as a form of ID.

    Work or student visa

    • We only require this if you are an international applicant.
    • Provide 1 copy of your work or student visa.
    • This documentation is in addition to the photo ID required above.
    • The documentation proves you are allowed to work in Canada.

    Verification of registration

    • We require this form from all applicants who are registered in another Canadian jurisdiction.
    • Complete the first section of the form.
    • Send the form to the regulatory body of that jurisdiction.
    • The regulatory body will return the fully completed form directly to us.
    • We do not accept forms submitted by applicants.

    Copy of your LPN diploma

    • Provide a copy of your LPN program diploma that a lawyer or notary public has signed.

    Letter of endorsement

    • Request this letter from the Yukon organization that will use your teaching or research services.
    • Ensure the letter identifies the purpose and length of your visit to Yukon. 

     

  4. Pay your fees

    Fees

    • Registration fee (one-time fee): $40.
    • Annual licence fee: $0

     

    How to pay

    There are 3 ways to pay: by cheque, credit card or cash/debit.

    Cheque

    • Complete the payment information form.
    • Provide a cheque in the appropriate amount made out to Goverment of Yukon.
    • We will cash the cheque if we approve your licence.

    Credit card

    • Complete the payment information form.
    • If you submit your application in-person, by courier or mail, you may include your credit card info on your payment information form.
    • If you submit your application by email or fax, do not include your credit card info on your form. We will contact you for your credit card info.
    • We will take payment when ready to your issue licence.

    Cash/debit

  5. ​Submit your complete application

    Submit your complete application package. This must include:

    • your completed application form;
    • all supporting documents; and
    • payment information form.

     

    If sending by mail, courier or in-person, you may also include a cheque for your fees made out to "Government of Yukon." If you do not include a cheque, we'll contact you regarding payment when we are ready to issue your licence.

    We typically process applications within 10 business days. We may return your application if you have not provided all the required documentation.
