Certificate reinstatements

If you have not renewed your certificate by March 31, you must:

  • apply for reinstatement; and
  • pay all applicable fees.

Contact our office for more information.

Processing time

We typically review applications within 30 business days. We'll confirm you've met all the legal requirements before we issue your certificate.

A full certificate allows you to:

  • use the title of registered psychiatric nurse (RPN); and
  • work to the full extent of the Yukon's regulations.

Eligibility

You're eligible to renew a full certificate if you:

  • hold a current full RPN certificate for the Yukon; and
  • have met all continuing competency requirements.

Continuing competency requirements

The Yukon’s Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPN) Regulation, O.I.C. 2009/134 requires RPNs to keep their knowledge and skills up to date. You must do this by fulfilling annual continuing competency requirements. These include a specific number of continuing education and professional practice hours.

What hours can you claim in your renewal application?

Only hours you completed in the 5-year period before you submit your application.

Requirements

  • A total of 1,400 professional practice hours.
  • A minimum of 60 and no more than 300 of these 1,400 hours must be continuing education hours.
  • Up to 300 of your 1,400 professional practice hours can be professional volunteer hours.
  • The rest of your professional practice hours must be from professional employment activities within the RPN scope of practice.
