Appealing your case

Appealing a decision made by the registrar of Motor Vehicles

If the registrar of motor vehicles suspends, disqualifies, or refuses to issue a licence, you have the right to appeal to the Driver Control Board within 30 days of the decision date.

The board can either confirm or overrule the decision made by the registrar of motor vehicles.

Appealing a decision made by the Driver Control Board

If the board imposes a suspension, confirms the decision of the registrar of motor vehicles, or adds conditions to your licence and you disagree with this decision, you can request a review by contacting the Driver Control Board coordinator within 30 days. If the review is unsuccessful in changing their decision, you can appeal this decision to a judge within 30 days of receiving notification of the Driver Control Board decision.

What is the process if the board overrules the registrar?

If the board overrules the registrar, they will notify the registrar in writing to issue or reinstate your licence. However, the board can impose conditions, such as mandatory education or treatment, to ensure you retain your licence.

Representation options

During an appeal, you can either represent yourself or have a lawyer or agent present your case.
