When you move to or from Yukon or change employers
Apprentice
- You can work or train anywhere in Canada without interrupting your apprenticeship training.
- You can transfer your apprenticeship to another employer.
- You must contact the Yukon apprenticeship office to transfer previous training from another jurisdiction. This is to ensure that any gaps in training are addressed by the apprentice and the employer.
- There’s no fee to transfer a Yukon apprenticeship from 1 employer to another within the Yukon.
- There’s a $10 fee to transfer your apprenticeship to Yukon from another province or territory.

- Include the contact information from your provincial or territorial apprenticeship office.
- Pay a non-refundable application fee of $10. We accept cash, cheque, debit or visa. We’ll process your payment at the front desk at the Department of Education building.
- Submit your completed forms, documents and application fee.

Next steps
When we get your application form, we:
- will verify your apprenticeship through your previous provincial or territorial office for:
- work experience hours;
- in-school training level(s); and
- exam(s) results.
- may do a prior learning assessment to identify any training gaps. These gaps can happen because of differences with in-school training and regulations; and
- will work with you to develop an individualized apprenticeship plan.
Once these steps are complete, you'll:
- be a registered Yukon apprentice; and
- work towards a Yukon certification and Red Seal endorsement.

- the trade;
- level; and
- hours recorded through your Yukon apprenticeship.

If you temporarily move to Yukon, contact your home apprenticeship office to stay registered in your province or territory while you:
- work; or
- train in Yukon.

If you plan to work short-term outside of Yukon:
- You can apply to transfer temporarily your apprenticeship to an employer outside Yukon.
- Your apprenticeship will continue through the Yukon office.
- Contact the apprenticeship office before you move.

To meet all legislated requirements, we'll review and process your application. Your apprenticeship will continue through our office. You must maintain your Yukon residency while continuing your apprenticeship outside of Yukon.
