Learn about fire bans and restrictions

The Government of Yukon and municipalities can restrict or ban the use of open fire. This includes campfires, fireworks, tiki torches, burn barrels and sky lanterns. Bans and restrictions depend on current and anticipated weather conditions and existing fire activity. See current fire bans and restrictions.

What is a fire ban?

A fire ban is an order issued by the forest supervisor when the fire danger reaches a critical stage. These normally occur when the fire danger is extreme and the hot and dry trend is expected to continue for a number of days.

Fire ban notices will be posted online.

What is a fire restriction?

A fire restriction is tied to burn permits. When the fire danger rating is moderate or higher, a fire restriction is put in place that suspends all burn permits.
