Eligibility
To be eligible for a job as a Yukon First Nations language teacher, you must be a:
- Canadian citizen; or
- permanent resident.

We use the pay grid for Yukon First Nations language teachers to determine salaries.
If you're hired, we assess a salary based on your:
- education; and
- experience.

To apply for a job, follow these steps:
- Create a free account or login to your account on the Department of Education portal.
- Log in to the Department of Education portal
3. Include all the information required in the portfolio tab, including:
- a résumé;
- a cover letter;
- 3 professional references including their names, positions and contact numbers. These can be from:
- administrative officers;
- faculty associates;
- school associates; or
- others in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
- Supporting documents, such as:
- teaching evaluations;
- practicum reports;
- certificates and diplomas;
- teaching qualifications and licences;
- reference letters;
- transcripts; and
- a vulnerable sector check.
4. Open the posting for the job you want to apply for.
5. Follow the online instructions and answer all job posting related questions.
6. Highlight the following criteria in your application to help us apply our priority hiring:
- you already work in the Yukon Department of Education;
- you're of Yukon First Nations ancestry; and
- you're Catholic.
7. Choose "Apply" at the bottom of the page and follow instructions.
8. Check your job application log to see if you've applied to the job successfully. Positions are posted throughout the year. Positions for the full school year are posted in the spring before each school year.

After you apply
Choosing Yukon First Nations language teachers
We choose Yukon First Nations language teachers based on:
- criteria listed in job postings; and
- teacher qualifications, including:
- education;
- knowledge;
- skills and abilities; and
- personal suitability.
Interview
We’ll contact only those applicants who screened in for an interview. Once you’ve had an interview, we’ll contact you with the results.
Vulnerable sector check
Once you're hired, you must get a vulnerable sector check. Follow these steps.
- Visit your local police detachment with 2 pieces of identification.
- Follow the instructions given to you by the police detachment to complete the process. The fee for a vulnerable sector check can vary. Ask the police detachment about the cost.
- Bring the original to Department of Education's Human Resources branch.
In person: Education Building (entrance to parking on Hospital Road), 1000 Lewes Boulevard in Whitehorse. We’re open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Your vulnerable sector check is valid for 2 years from the date the police verifies the search. You must keep it current, even if it expires in the middle of a school year.
