Adult with COVID-19 symptoms: go to work or stay home?

Download the Can I go to work or return to regular activities poster.

This guidance does not apply if:

  • you're a contact of someone who has COVID-19;
  • you are severely immunocompromised or have a complex medical history; or
  • you travelled outside Yukon in the last 14 days.

Do not use the symptom traffic light checker

If you have a pre-existing condition, then the symptom traffic lights do not apply to you. For example, if you have asthma and a cough, or you get frequent runny noses during cold weather. Think about what is normal for you.

Use the symptom traffic light checker

If you're experiencing new symptoms, use the traffic light checker.

  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Loss of taste or smell

When you have 1 or more red symptoms

Get tested

Testing is strongly recommended if you have 1 or more red symptoms.

You must self-isolate until you're tested and your result is negative. This means do not:

  • go to work; or
  • take part in regular activities.

Book a test

Phone the COVID-19 Testing and Assessment Centre 867-393-3083.

If you do not get tested

You must self-isolate for 10 days from the beginning of symptoms. Do this even if your symptoms clear up sooner than 10 days.

  • Runny nose or congestion
  • Sore throat
  • Acute or intense fatigue
  • Generalized muscle aches (not related to physical exertion)
  • Significant loss of appetite

When you have 2 or more yellow symptoms

Get tested

Testing is recommended if you have 2 or more yellow symptoms for more than 24 hours.

You must self-isolate until you're tested and your result is negative. This means do not:

  • go to work; or
  • take part in regular activities.

Book a test

Phone the COVID-19 Testing and Assessment Centre 867-393-3083.

If you do not get tested

If symptoms clear up sooner than 10 days without testing, you still have to self-isolate. That's unless your family physician or rural primary healthcare centre tells you otherwise.

When you have 1 yellow symptom

You can return to work and regular activities once the symptom goes away.

Exceptions

You're throwing up or have diarrhea

Stay at home until 24 hours after your symptoms have gone away.

You have a runny nose or nasal congestion

You may return to work and regular activities if:

  • this lasts longer than 24 hours;
  • is mild and not getting worse; and
  • you're otherwise well.

You do not need a written note from your health care provider to return to work and regular activities.

No symptoms

  • You can go to work and take part in regular activities.
  • Follow the Safe 6.
