Changes in services

Counselling and crisis support  

Counselling and crisis support is available by phone and email.

Dental services 

The Chief Medical Officer of Health ordered the territory’s dental practices to suspend all non-urgent treatment until further notice. This is to protect Yukoners, as well as dental care providers, from the spread of infection.

Professional Licensing and Regulatory Affairs office 

The office at 307 Black Street is open but we are not providing in-person service. 

  • Inside the building there's a drop-off station for documents and printed forms are available for clients who do not have access to a computer and printer. The door to the internal office is closed.
  • We'll accept all documents for processing by fax, e-mail, regular mail and at the drop-off station.
  • We'll answer inquiries by phone 1-867-667-5111 or email inquiry.plra@gov.yk.ca. We'll do our best to reply within 48 hours.
  • Find information to apply for and renew your licence.

If you phone and get our voicemail, leave a detailed message and what you'd like to inquire about. This way, we can forward your message to the appropriate person. 

We've changed some of our requirements to minimize the need for contact between our clients and our staff. 

  • Documents no longer require a notary public to notarize them.
  • Instead, a notary public only needs to witness the document in question. 
  • We are also now accepting digital documents.

Quitpath

We are operating with full-service to current and new clients with the following modifications:

  • new client intakes and personal coaching sessions are taking place on the phone (instead of face-to-face) during regular business hours between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.;
  • clients who using free nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) can get multi-week supplies (instead of 1 week at a time);
  • Whitehorse clients can get NRT supplies (patches, lozenges, gum, inhalers, etc..) through no-contact delivery.

For Whitehorse-area clients who do not live within city limits (for example, Golden Horn, Marsh Lake, etc.) NRTs can be picked up in-person at the Quitpath office: 305 Jarvis on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

In rural communities, Quitpath is “business as usual” notwithstanding any modifications to usual services at local health centres

Veterinary clinics

Veterinary clinics in Yukon are currently open, but are taking measures that allow for social distancing. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • reducing hours,
  • limiting the number of clients in the clinic at any given time, and
  • postponing non-emergency appointments.

Phone your clinic prior to visiting. Learn about any restrictions that they've introduced to help minimize spread of illness. These new measures will help keep their staff healthy so they can continue to serve their clients and patients.

Vital Statistics and Insured Health offices

Our offices remain open with reduced hours. We ask clients to access services remotely if possible.

New health care applications, enrolment in extended health benefit programs and medical travel form submission or questions can be processed by phone, email or fax.

Clients returning to Yukon after a temporary absence have until June 30, 2020, to sign in with Insured Health and Hearing Services. Please ensure that you have self-isolated for 14 days prior to going in person to our office.

Whitehorse Motor Vehicles office

  • The Whitehorse Motor Vehicles Office remains open. Yukoners are encouraged to access services online or by phone 867-667-5315 or toll free within Yukon at 1-800-661-0408 extension 5315.
  • Many services can be provided over the phone or through email and fax. These include driver’s licence and General Identification Card renewals, and registration transactions.
  • Lobby capacity is limited to 5 people in the waiting area and 1 client in each available wicket.
  • Other clients are asked to wait outside in their vehicles and will receive a call when it is their turn.
  • The maximum capacity for knowledge tests is now 2 people at a time.
  • No road tests are being performed at this time.
  • Daily cleaning has been increased for the safety of clients and staff.

Yukon hospitals

  • Closed to visitors, with limited exceptions.
  • A strict limit of 2 people will be permitted to visit newborn and maternity patients, sick children, patients at end of life or in emergency situations.
  • Caregivers of a person with a disability and substitute decision-makers are also permitted to visit.
  • All non-urgent or routine services are suspended. This includes:
    • bloodwork and lab tests;
    • x-rays;
    • CT scans and other imaging services;
    • physiotherapy;
    • occupational therapy; and
    • specialist appointments.
