Municipal and local advisory council (LAC) elections are held every 4 years in the Yukon. The next elections will be in October, 2024.

Policies and decisions can have a large impact on the wellbeing of your community. It's important to be involved when you can, whether it's voting or running in the municipal or local advisory council election in your community. 

When's the next municipal and LAC election?

The Yukon's last municipal and local advisory council election was on October 21, 2021. An election will be held in 2024 in October. 

How does a municipal or LAC election work?

Returning Officer

Each electoral district has an appointed Returning Officer who:

  • prepares for and conducts municipal and local advisory committee events;
  • reviews polling divisions; and
  • manages elections.

Their appointments are ongoing to ensure everything' s ready for the election.

Candidates

Candidates run for positions including mayor and councillor. If there are more candidates than positions, a formal election process is held. If not, candidates may be acclaimed to their positions. 

What municipalities and LACs are having an election?

All municipalities and local advisory councils in the Yukon hold elections for mayor and council. They include:

  • Mount Lorne;
  • Tagish; and 
  • Carcross (South Klondike LAC or SKLAC)
