The Government of Yukon opened the $3.6 million 2019 Housing Initiatives Fund for project submissions today. This call for projects supports more affordable housing options for Yukoners by funding new housing across the territory.
First Nations governments, First Nations Development Corporations, developers, contractors, community organizations and the general public can apply for this funding with projects that will increase affordable housing options in their community.
A submission form and proposal outline are available from the Yukon Housing Corporation. The deadline for project proposals is February 28, 2019, at 4:30 p.m.
The 2018 call for projects funded 10 housing projects that are currently under way or will break ground this season, creating a total of 123 new affordable housing units across the territory. We are pleased with this success and know that there is still a need for affordable housing in Yukon. This fund is encouraging the kind of housing development the territory needs.
Minister responsible for Yukon Housing Corporation Pauline Frost
Projects must include a minimum of four units in Whitehorse or a minimum of two units in communities.
Projects must increase the amount of affordable housing available for Yukoners and can include new affordable rentals or new rent-to-own options, or other mixed market approaches.
This funding can be used with other Yukon Housing Corporation programs such as the Municipal Matching Rental Construction Program, the First Nation Partnership Program and the Developer Build Loan Program, as well as federal funding projects.
This is the second of five years this fund will be offered, subject to annual appropriation.
