Commissioner launches new Story Laureate of Yukon program

The Commissioner’s Office is launching the Story Laureate of Yukon program. The Story Laureate will create works that focus on cultural, historical and heritage themes that are relevant to the people who live in Yukon. They will serve as an ambassador for the literary arts, story telling and literacy in the context of Yukon’s past, present and future. The term will run from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022.

It is my honour to launch the new Story Laureate of Yukon program. We want to have a program that is more inclusive to the non-written word artists, as well as authors, poets and other written story tellers.

Quick facts 
  • The incumbent will create works and focus on cultural, historical and heritage themes relevant to the people who live in Yukon.

  • Eligible applicants must be 19 years of age and have lived in Yukon for two continuous years prior to applying.

  • The Story Laureate of Yukon will have a stipend of $5,000 per year for their two-year term and then will have to wait six years to reapply.
