The Yukon Housing Corporation has allocated $1 million in grant funding to continue the Municipal Matching Rental Construction Program. The program matches contributions from municipal governments that allow the construction of new rental units across Yukon.
The Government of Yukon is committed to working with communities to identify and address housing needs across the territory. The program aims to support the unique housing needs of each community.
We are proud of the success we’ve seen through the Municipal Matching Rental Construction Program, which helps to increase the supply and improve the quality of rental housing across Yukon.
Minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation Pauline Frost
Since December 2016, there have been 38 successful applications to the Municipal Matching Rental Construction Program; 57 new rental units are associated with these applications.
The Municipal Matching Rental Construction Program has seen uptake in Whitehorse, Teslin, Dawson City, Carmacks and Watson Lake.
The Yukon Housing Corporation will match municipal incentives currently in place. Funding of up to $10,000 may be provided for construction of a new rental suite in an existing house. Up to $50,000 for the construction of multiple family developments or up to $500,000 for major developments with a minimum of 10-rental units may also be provided.
