Joint news release with Council of Yukon First Nations
Yukon’s Premier, Cabinet members and First Nations Chiefs met today at the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Community Hall for the third Yukon Forum of 2018.
This meeting marks one year of implementing the Joint Action Plan of the Yukon Forum. Leaders received updates on the progress of several joint working groups including child welfare, fish and wildlife, and land use planning.
The leaders also received an update on the Yukon Tourism Development Strategy that was developed with input from First Nations as part of a comprehensive engagement process, and will soon go out to the public for comment.
They also discussed how to be more strategic and focused in presenting one Yukon voice to federal Ministers to advance joint priorities.
The revitalized Yukon Forum has allowed for an unprecedented level of collaboration with Yukon First Nations governments. Guided by the Joint Action Plan, we are making progress on important priorities such as land use planning, health and social services and justice. We have laid the groundwork and continue to work together to improve the lives of all Yukoners.

The intergovernmental cooperation taking place through the Yukon Forum continues to evolve and improve. It’s been a year since we created the Joint Action Plan and the working groups are making real progress. I’m encouraged to see us move forward on issues of critical importance to Yukon First Nations.

The Yukon Forum is a meeting of the political leaders of the Government of Yukon, Yukon First Nations governments and the Council of Yukon First Nations.
The Yukon Forum meets four times a year.
In September 2017, the leaders approved a Joint Action Plan and established working groups to make progress on shared priorities.
