The Government of Yukon is recognizing the accomplishments of Yukon’s sport community with the announcement of the 2020 Celebration of Sport Excellence awards.
The Government of Yukon is awarding territorial sport awards to 26 individual athletes, representing eight different sports. These awards include the Premier’s awards of sport excellence, as well as the Minister’s awards of sport recognition. These awards are given to athletes or teams that have achieved a medal or all-star designation at provincial, national or international competitions in the 2020 calendar year.
Due to COVID-19 considerations, award recipients will be recognized with a video message from the Minister and celebrated virtually.
In 2020, Yukon athletes and coaches achieved so much at many different levels of competition in challenging circumstances. Their achievements are an inspiration to all Yukoners. My heartfelt congratulations on everything that was achieved in 2020 through a global pandemic.

COVID-19 has given us some uncertainty around sport competitions but I am inspired by our dedicated athletes who are continuing to train and work towards their personal bests, setting their sights on the time when we can once again compete on a larger scale safely.
