Government of Yukon seeking a solution to restart work on the Carmacks arena

Construction of the Carmacks arena has not yet restarted this summer. The contractor, Scott Design Build, has not returned to work on this project following a planned winter shutdown.

The Government of Yukon is now seeking a solution to get work started as quickly as possible. The government has issued a notice of default on the performance bond for this project. The Government of Yukon will be working with the bonding company to explore options to complete the project and resolve the issue. Any work on the arena must comply with COVID-19 measures, and this includes the need for workers to self-isolate for 14 days when arriving from out of territory.

In the meantime, a local contractor is monitoring the site to ensure that the asset is protected. Completion of the project is likely to be delayed until 2021. Any subcontractors or suppliers who worked on this project and have not been paid are encouraged to contact the Procurement Support Centre to file a claim by calling 867-667-5385.
