The Government of Yukon is releasing a revised guide of the Preferred Practices for Works Affecting Yukon Waters as part of Canada Water Week taking place from March 20 to 27, 2019.
The guide is being released before the spring construction season and will support industries in managing environmental risks, with a goal of preserving water quality of territorial lakes and rivers. It can be found at https://yukon.ca/en/preferred-practices-works-affecting-yukon-waters.
The Government of Yukon’s approach to environmental protection continues evolving to best address new and changing environmental risks.
This is an opportunity to show environmental stewardship and leadership, while at the same time maintaining a strong economy. Yukoners value a healthy environment and it is essential that we put in place the framework to safeguard our lakes and rivers for future generations.

This document is a guide, not a regulatory manual, which assists industry in designing projects and conducting work in a responsible manner.
While it will be available in print format, we recommend using the digital copy which will have regular updates.
The previous version of this guide titled Best Management Practices for Works Affecting Water in Yukon was released in 2011.
