Interim Electrical Rebate renewed

The Government of Yukon has renewed the Interim Electrical Rebate, pending legislative approval. The rebate is applied to electric bills and reduces the overall amount Yukoners pay each month for electricity.

Administered by the Yukon Development Corporation, the rebate reduces the amount customers pay on the first 1,000 kilowatt hours each month.

This government is dedicated to ensuring Yukon remains an affordable place for our residents to live and a competitive environment for our businesses. Access to clean, reliable and affordable energy is a key part of that commitment.

Minister responsible for the Yukon Development Corporation Ranj Pillai

Quick facts
  • The rebate began in 1998 as the Rate Stabilization Fund to help offset rate increases caused by the closure of the Faro mine – which significantly reduced the demand for power in the territory.

  • Residential customers can save up to $26.62 each month, or approximately $319 annually.

  • The fund has a $3.5 million budget annually.
