Literacy is a fundamental skill that provides the foundation for lifelong learning and allows people to understand and participate in all areas of society. It also contributes to a skilled workforce that supports our economic and social wellbeing. I encourage you to nominate Yukoners who are making exceptional contributions in adult literacy.
Premier Sandy Silver
Across the Yukon, innovative literacy leadership happens every day, often behind the scenes. I encourage you to help honour leaders who support, inspire and share ways to strengthen adult literacy skills by nominating them for this prestigious award.
Minister of Education Jeanie McLean
The 2020 Council of the Federation Literacy Award went to the Liard First Nation Language Department for their extensive work to promote and preserve the Kaska language.
The award ceremony takes place around International Literacy Day, September 8.
Yukon recipients have been recognized in the past for contributions to literacy in Yukon First Nation languages and French, for leadership in literacy organizations and for being learners who have strengthened their literacy as adults.
