Premier Sandy Silver congratulates Yukon’s 2018 Olympic athletes

Speaker of the House Nils Clarke, Minister Tracy-Anne McPhee, Minister Jeanie Dendys, MLA Paolo Gallina and Government of Yukon staff pose with cut-outs of Yukon Olympians Graham Nishikawa, Emily Nishikawa, Dahria Beatty and Knute Johnsgaard.

Premier Sandy Silver today issued the following statement regarding the Yukoners competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea:

On behalf of all Yukoners, I would like to express my congratulations to Dahria Beatty, Knute Johnsgaard, Emily Nishikawa and Graham Nishikawa.

This is Emily’s second Olympics on the Canadian cross-country ski team, and she will be joined on the South Korean ski trails by Olympic newcomers Dahria and Knute. Emily’s brother, Graham, is attending his second Paralympic Winter Games as a guide for cross-country skier Brian McKeever.

To have some of the world’s best athletes grow and develop in our territory is an incredible thing, and it is thanks to the dedication, commitment and hard work that these athletes have shown. It has carried them from the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club to competition on the international stage, where they have excelled and made us proud time and again.

The Government of Yukon is proud to support Yukon athletes and to foster opportunities for sport and active living. These four and the many other Olympians that our territory has produced to date show just how far sport can take us. From the Arctic Winter Games, to the Canada Games, to the Olympics; even a small territory can take on the world, across all disciplines.

I wish Dahria, Knute, Emily and Graham the very best of luck. Their spirit and achievement have been an inspiration and I wish them well as they represent Canada.

Premier Sandy Silver
