Quartz Mining Act amendments deferred

The Government of Yukon is deferring the tabling of a proposed amendment to the Quartz Mining Act based on input received during the public engagement held in the summer of 2018.

A summary of the input received is available in the What We Heard document on the EngageYukon website.

The proposed amendment is being deferred to ensure the information received during the public engagement can be thoroughly reviewed and taken into consideration before next steps are determined. The deferral will also provide the necessary time for the territorial government to have further discussions with First Nations and the mineral industry.

It is important we take the time to get it right, so we will defer the tabling of the proposed amendment to the Quartz Mining Act. This will allow us to consider all of the input received during the public engagement, and we will also have further discussions with First Nations and the mineral industry before moving any potential amendment forward.

Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources Ranj Pillai
