Statement on the attack of a Muslim family in London, Ontario

On June 6, a Muslim family in London, Ontario, was attacked in what appears to be a targeted act of hate. Four of the five family members were killed and a nine-year-old boy remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Premier Sandy Silver issued the following statement in response:

“On behalf of our government and all Yukoners, I want to express our deep condolences to the people of London, Ontario, and Muslim communities throughout Canada.

"We are all devastated by the news of this horrific attack. This kind of hate and discrimination has no place in our society and cannot be tolerated. Everyone deserves a safe place to live. Islamophobia is a very real problem in Canada that must be addressed by all Canadians. We must collectively take action against all forms of racism, discrimination, and hate to ensure our society is inclusive and welcoming to all Canadians.

"We stand in solidarity with Muslim Canadians and with Yukon’s Muslim community through this difficult time.”
