Wildfire risk reduction projects taking place this week in Whitehorse

Wildland Fire Management crews continue organized risk reduction work in Whitehorse this week. Prescribed burning will take place:

• north of the Takhini neighbourhood on Tuesday, May 11; and
• east of Range Road near the old landfill on Wednesday, May 12.

Residents near prescribed fire operations will be notified by Wildland Fire Management staff. Short periods of low-intensity smoke may be visible from the treatment areas.

Prescribed fire is a strategic way of using fire under specific conditions to reduce wildfire risk. By removing material that potential uncontrolled wildfires could burn, areas treated this way help firefighters suppress the fire.
