Yukon Premier continues work with counterparts for a strong Canada

Yukon Premier Sandy Silver will participate in the summer meeting of Premiers in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick, from July 18 to 20. Agenda topics will include trade, the economy, infrastructure, health care and cannabis.

Priorities for Premier Silver at the meeting will be working with Premiers to ensure that infrastructure investments are flexible enough to meet regional needs, collaborate to manage the possible impacts of Canada-US tariff action on Canada and support the Government of Canada’s efforts in North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiations. Premier Silver will also discuss Yukon’s readiness for cannabis implementation with Canada’s Premiers.

On July 18, Premiers will meet leaders of national Indigenous organizations in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, to discuss economic partnerships and Indigenous children in care.

I am looking forward to meeting with Premiers from right across Canada and continuing to make headway on the matters Canadians care about and that affect the lives of citizens in all our jurisdictions. I am anticipating productive discussions and will report back to Yukoners on our progress.

  • Premiers meet face to face every summer and winter to make progress on their shared priorities.

  • Each provincial government – plus the Government of Yukon – takes it in turn to chair the federation for one year. Yukon’s Premier was the chair in 2016–17.
