Yukon priorities to be championed at national discussions

Premier Sandy Silver is raising support for Yukon priorities at meetings with federal Ministers, Canada’s Premiers and the Prime Minister in Ottawa and Montreal. The main topics of the Premier’s discussions will be investment in Yukon with a focus on housing, infrastructure and Yukon University.

On December 3 and 4, Premier Silver, Ministers McPhee and Frost, and Yukon First Nations Chiefs will share their joint priorities for Yukon with federal Ministers in Ottawa. While in Ottawa, Premier Silver will also meet his territorial counterparts to discuss pan-northern priorities and, with his Cabinet Ministers, take part in meetings with federal Ministers.

On December 7, Premier Silver will participate in a First Ministers’ Meeting with Premiers and the Prime Minister in Montreal where First Ministers will also meet leaders of the Assembly of First Nations, the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and the Métis National Council.

I’m looking forward to a productive week of meetings with counterparts from across the country. This is an opportunity to seek the federal government’s support, understanding and collaboration on a number of made-in-Yukon solutions and territorial priorities. It is also an opportunity to convey to my colleagues that investments in the North benefit the country as a whole.
