Yukon school calendar dates now available

School calendar dates for all Yukon schools are now available online for the 2018–19 school year. Some non-instructional days for professional learning for teachers and school bell schedules are still being set and will be finalized in the coming weeks. Key dates for Whitehorse schools are also now available for 2019–20, 2020–21 and 2021–22.

The Government of Yukon is working toward a goal of having school calendars set four years in advance to help families, schools and communities with planning around the school calendar. Rural calendar dates for the next three school years will be determined in the coming weeks, recognizing that each rural community in Yukon has unique circumstances that need to be considered when establishing school calendar dates.

Our guiding principle in crafting school calendars is to support student learning and balance the needs of families and school communities. Thank you to all school councils, school staff and school communities for your valuable input and assistance in developing school calendars for the next four years.

Quick facts
  • School calendars in Yukon require 950 hours of instruction through the school year and school days must be between 300-330 instructional minutes according to the Education Act.

  • Whitehorse schools share the same calendar dates. Both schools in Watson Lake also follow the same calendar dates. Other rural school calendars vary depending on the needs of the community.

  • Schools in Whitehorse will start school next school year on August 21, 2018, with a two-week Christmas break and a two-week Spring break in March. For rural schools, families should check with their local school for important dates.
