  1. Determine if you're eligible

    All insurance agents working in Yukon must hold a current Yukon licence and renew it every year.

    In Yukon, insurance agents can renew 4 types of licences:

    • life;
    • accident and sickness;
    • general (for all insurance classes except life, accident and sickness, and travel accident and sickness); and
    • travel accident and sickness (only travel agents may apply for this licence type).

    Renewal period

    All insurance agent licences expire annually on September 30. Submit your renewal application before August 1. This will ensure we can process your application before your licence expires. It’s illegal to work in the new licence year before we have issued your new licence.

    Eligibility

    You can apply to renew your licence if you hold a current Yukon insurance agent licence.

  2. Complete the renewal application form

    Complete all sections of the renewal application form. Do not leave a section blank. You may enter "not applicable" when it’s relevant.

    Tips

    • Mark on the top of the form which licence class(es) you're applying for.
    • You can apply for more than 1 class of insurance.
    • Select whether you're applying for a:
      • resident; or
      • non-resident licence.
    • Choose non-resident if your home jurisdiction is outside of Yukon.
    • Sign the affidavit section in front of a notary public and then have the notary sign and witness.
    • Send us the original application form and keep a photocopy for your records.
    • We do not accept photocopies of the application form.
    • We may return incomplete applications.
  3. Provide all other supporting documents required

    Gather together the following documents and provide these with your complete application package.

    Proof of standing

    We require this proof from applicants who hold an agent licence in another Canadian or US jurisdiction.

    • We accept the following as proof of standing:
      • a recent printout from your home regulator’s online register;
      • a copy of your insurance agent licence from your home jurisdiction;
      • a certificate of authority from your home regulator; or
      • any combination of the above.

    • You must ensure this documentation shows all of the following:
      • your name;
      • your licence number;
      • the class(es) of insurance you are licensed to sell; and
      • your current licence status or licence expiry date.
  4. Pay your fees

    Fees

    If you're applying for more than 1 licence type, add the cost of each licence to the total.
