  1. Determine if you're eligible

    All security professionals working in Yukon must hold a valid Yukon licence and renew it every year.

    There are 4 classes of licences security professionals can hold in Yukon:

    • security guard;
    • private investigator;
    • security consultant; and
    • burglar alarm agent.

    Renewal period

    All security professional licences expire annually on March 31. Submit your renewal application before March 1. This ensures we can process your application before your licence expires.

    It's illegal to work in the new licence year before we have issued your new licence.

    Eligibility

    You can apply to renew your licence if you:

    • hold a current security professional licence in Yukon; and
    • are currently employed by a security agency that holds a valid Yukon agency licence.

    If you’ve had any complaints, disciplinary or criminal action against you, please note:

    • we will assess your eligibility for registration or licensure on a case-by-case basis; and
    • you may not be approved for registration or licensing.
  2. Complete the renewal application form

    Complete all sections of the renewal application form. Do not leave a section blank. You may enter "not applicable" when it's relevant.

    Tips

    • Make sure to mark on the top of the form which licence class you would like to renew.
    • You can renew more than 1 class on your application.
