The Government of Yukon clears vegetation along highways through the Vegetation Control Program. This is known as brushing. You can check where brushing will take place and find out how to apply for an exemption near your property.
Vegetation control in 2025
View the maps to see highway brushing projects planned for 2025. Plans may change as work is ongoing.
Vegetation control work takes place from mid-April to late fall when there is no snow on the ground. In certain locations, we schedule work around bird nesting periods.
The brushing width can differ for each highway. It may extend 5 to 25 metres from the highway shoulder.
Vegetation control and your property
We may conduct vegetation control work on the highway near your property.
If you do not want work to happen near your property, you can apply for an exemption.
Apply for an exemption
To apply for an exemption, email [email protected] and include the:
- highway name; and
- kilometre post where your property is located.
We’ll review your exemption request and contact you if we have any specific concerns.
Benefits of vegetation control
Vegetation control helps maintain highways by:
- improving visibility and sight lines;
- helping reduce wildlife collisions;
- creating a clear shoulder on the road;
- helping roadside drainage;
- preserving road infrastructure; and
- controlling invasive weeds.
