Statement from Premier Pillai on meeting with northern Premiers

Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

“This past Sunday, I met with Premiers from Nunavut and the Northwest Territories to discuss priorities directly related to the North. Our goal was to seek opportunities for alignment and build from the work we have done to date as we prepared to meet with our counterparts at the Council of the Federation.

“We discussed a variety of topics to advance our shared work of continuing to build a strong, vibrant and resilient North. Arctic security and Canada-U.S. relations were a particular focus of discussion. As leaders in Arctic security, we must be at the forefront of national conversations on this matter.

“During this meeting, the Government of Yukon was announced as the next chair of the Northern Premiers’ Forum. I look forward to this role and thank Premier of Nunavut P.J. Akeeagok for his work as chair over the past year. I also look forward to hosting the 2025 Northern Premiers’ Forum in the Yukon and the opportunity to showcase the Yukon’s many attributes to our neighbours.”
