Emergency status

A state of emergency was declared on March 27, 2020. It was extended for another 90 days on June 12, 2020.

Health care

  • From August 12 to August 18, 139 people went to the Respiratory Assessment Centre in Whitehorse and we tested 134 people. 
  • Residents of Yukon’s five long-term care homes can now receive two designated visitors indoors: https://yukon.ca/en/news/august-19-2020-covid-19-update
  • Going forward, new cases of COVID-19 will be identified through news releases and on Yukon.ca.
  • A reminder that staying home when sick has never been more important.
  • The Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN) and the Government of Yukon have developed a campaign that addresses some of the indirect consequences to children and families of the COVID-19 pandemic: https://yukon.ca/en/news/joint-initiative-reaches-out-families-and-child...
  • To help Yukoners at risk during this pandemic, vulnerable populations can now access mental health and social supports online.

Travel and borders

  • Canada and the U.S. have extended border closures to non-essential travel until September 21.
  • Stricter rules and additional entry conditions will be imposed on travellers transiting through Canada to Alaska: https://www.canada.ca/en/border-services-agency/news/2020/07/covid-19-st...
  • Residents of BC, Nunavut, NWT and Yukon are allowed to travel back and forth without the need to self-isolate for 14 days,
  • Individuals entering Yukon’s airports must wear a mask and the Government of Canada will now require temperature screenings for all passengers.

  • Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health is recommending to the Department of Education that children age 10 and older wear non-medical masks where physical distancing cannot be maintained.

  • To support the government’s COVID-19 response, Staff from visitor information centres have been reassigned to work out of information stations at Yukon’s land and air borders where they will provide visitors with COVID-19 resources and information https://yukon.ca/en/news/august-5-2020-covid-19-update
