Emergency status

A state of emergency was declared on March 27, 2020. It was extended for another 90 days on June 12, 2020.

Health care

  • Yukoners can now choose one other household to join up with and don’t have to practise physical distancing with people in that household: https://yukon.ca/en/news/may-19-2020-covid-19-update
  • Outdoor visits for long-term care residents are now permitted.
  • To help Yukoners at risk during this pandemic, vulnerable populations can now access mental health and social supports online.

Travel and borders

  • Starting July 1, residents of British Columbia and Yukon will be allowed to travel back and forth without the need to self-isolate for 14 days. Residents of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut will also be allowed to enter Yukon.
  • Additionally on July 1 residents of other parts of Canada can visit if they isolate in Whitehorse for 14 days. This is not recommended but it will be possible.
  • As of July 1 gatherings of up to 50 can take place and restaurants can operate at full capacity, both circumstances still require safe distancing.
  • People entering Yukon’s airports must wear a mask starting July 1.
  • The Government of Canada will now require temperature screenings for all passengers travelling to and from Canada:https://www.canada.ca/en/transport-canada/news/2020/06/temperature-scree...
  • Canada and the US have extended the current border measures until July 21, keeping borders closed to non-essential travel.
  • Territorial campgrounds are open with some restrictions: www.yukon.ca/camping
  • Parks Canada has opened camping at Kluane National Park and Reserve. 
  • Anyone entering Yukon must check in with an Enforcement or CBSA Officer and provide their destination, contact information and declaration.

Businesses and financial relief

  • Visitor information centres in Yukon opened on July 1.
  • The Governments of Yukon .and Canada have taken steps to support local workers and businesses
  • Residential tenants who are under a health protection measure after June 25 or who need to breach their tenancy agreement because they're under a COVID-19 health protection order will continue to be protected from eviction.
