This is a joint news release between the Government of Yukon and Alliance Health.
The Yukon government has signed a Letter of Intent with Alliance Health to operate a primary care clinic in Whitehorse and allow doctors to continue serving patients.
The Letter of Intent establishes a framework for Alliance Health to operate a primary care clinic at 106 Lambert Street, fully utilizing the current River Valley Medical Clinic space to support physician and nurse practitioner services. The clinic is expected to expand services to serve approximately 2,000 new patients over the next two years, helping to significantly reduce the number of Yukoners on the primary care waitlist.
Subject to terms of the final agreement, Alliance Health will be responsible for day-to-day management of the clinic with the government supporting the recruitment of up to four nurse practitioners to provide primary care. Alliance Health is anticipated to begin operating the clinic on May 1, 2026.
This advances a key government mandate commitment to improve Yukoners’ access to frontline health care services and supports the recruitment of new health care professionals.
Improving Yukoners’ access to health care services is a top priority for our government. Through this Letter of Intent with Alliance Health, we are helping doctors continue to serve their patients and using existing clinical space, bringing on new providers and connecting more Yukoners with the primary care services they need. By adding nurse practitioners in our health care system, we are expanding access to primary care.
We, Alliance Health, have been working towards the realization of a primary care clinic for many years and are excited to see it finally come to fruition. We are both Yukoners and nurse practitioners ourselves, and as such we are deeply invested in the health and wellness of all Yukoners and know firsthand, how nurse practitioners can play a role in improving health outcomes. We are proud to be able to incorporate more nurse practitioners into the Yukon health care system thereby improving access to primary care. We believe strongly in team-based care and are looking forward to working with the existing health care providers to provide Yukoners with quality comprehensive and personalized care.
