Automatic enrolment is underway for the new Whistle Bend Elementary School

Whistle Bend Elementary School, which is the first new elementary school to be built in Whitehorse in more than 20 years, will welcome students in August 2024 for the 2024–25 school year.

Students are expected to attend a school in the attendance area of their primary home address, and the attendance area for the new school includes the neighbourhoods of Whistle Bend and Takhini (north of the softball fields). Automatic enrolment for Whistle Bend Elementary School is now underway and based on:

  • addresses on file with the Department of Education (as submitted by families);
  • current program enrolment;
  • current grade level; and
  • enrolment preferences submitted by families to the Department of Education.

Families in the Whistle Bend Elementary School attendance area are receiving letters with specific information about where their child is registered to attend school in August 2024. If families live in the Whistle Bend attendance area and have not received a letter by April 15, 2024, they should contact publicschools@yukon.ca.

Families with children attending a school operated by the First Nation School Board or Commission scolaire francophone du Yukon will not receive a letter, as their current school enrolment will not change.

If any other family living in the Whistle Bend Elementary School attendance area does not receive an enrolment confirmation letter from Yukon Education, contact Yukon Education:

  • by email at publicschools@yukon.ca;
  • by telephone at 867-471-0899; or
  • in-person at 1000 Lewes Boulevard in Whitehorse, from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Quick facts
  • Exemptions from automatic enrolment were available to students currently enrolled in a program of choice (French Immersion, Catholic Education, Aurora Virtual School or a school operated by a school board) or entering grades 6 and 7 in August 2024.

  • There is no automatic enrolment for kindergarten at any Yukon school. To register a child for kindergarten, families must follow the online process at Yukon.ca/register-child-school.

  • Whistle Bend Elementary School is a new school in Whitehorse, designed for up to 425 students in kindergarten to Grade 7.
