Commissioner of Yukon launches new funding program for Yukon Francophonie Day

To encourage opportunities for all Yukoners to participate in Yukon Francophonie Day celebrations a $15,000 annual funding program is being launched by the Commissioner of Yukon.

The funding will support community groups, businesses, municipalities and educational institutions in organizing local events promoting the vitality and diversity of the Yukon Francophone community.

To be eligible, events must:

  • take place between May 10 and May 15;
  • showcase a French-language or Francophone culture component;
  • be free of charge (no admission fees or donation required for entry);
  • be open to the general public, except for activities organized in schools and daycares; and
  • be held in the Yukon.

Priority is given to events scheduled on May 15. This year, May 15 will mark the 17th Yukon Francophonie Day.

As the first Francophone commissioner in the history of the Yukon, I am glad to be able to recognize and celebrate the history and vitality of the Yukon Francophone community. I encourage community groups and businesses from across the territory to apply to this funding program.
