The Government of Yukon is committed to fostering collaboration with other provinces and territories to help strengthen and grow the territory, the North and the broader country for generations to come.
Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai attended the Council of the Federation summer meeting in Winnipeg, Manitoba this week where he discussed these and other shared priorities with his fellow Premiers from across the country.
At this meeting, Premier Pillai brought the Yukon’s perspectives and interests to discussions on a diverse range of issues, including:
- health human resources and other labour market challenges;
- building the infrastructure to support communities and economic growth;
- lowering the cost of living and promoting access to affordable, quality housing;
- climate action; and
- ensuring a resilient, secure Canadian Arctic.
The evolving wildfire situations across Canada, including in the Yukon, were at the forefront of many of the conversations.
The Council of the Federation released communiqués during their meeting in Winnipeg on the July 11 discussions focused on Strong Communities and the July 12 discussions focused on Economic Growth and Opportunities.
Canada’s Premiers are deeply engaged on the challenges our nation faces, from health care to critical minerals, labour markets to critical minerals, clean energy to Arctic security and sovereignty. I am proud to join my counterparts from across the country to bring the Yukon’s unique story and ambitions to the Council of the Federation table. I look forward to our continued work together on these important issues, and I express my warmest thanks to Premier Stefanson for hosting us in Winnipeg.

The Council of the Federation is comprised of Premiers from Canada’s thirteen provinces and territories.
Premier of Manitoba Heather Stefanson chaired the summer meeting.
Premier Pillai also met with stakeholders such as national Indigenous organization leaders, the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions, the National Police Federation and a coalition of industry partners working on Canadian trade infrastructure including the Business Council of Canada, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canada West Foundation, Canadian Construction Association, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, Civil Infrastructure Council Corp., and the Western Canada Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association.
