Non-government organizations, First Nations and women’s organizations can now apply to the Government of Yukon’s Prevention of Violence Against Aboriginal Women (PVAAW) project fund.
The Prevention of Violence Against Aboriginal Women fund provides assistance to community-based violence prevention projects that are designed and developed by and for Indigenous women. Since its launch in 2004, the fund has provided more than $2 million to nearly 100 community projects.
This year, the fund will accept applications for one-year projects only. This will allow the Yukon government to then conduct a review of the fund. This review will include considering how the fund aligns with the recently announced National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence (NAP GBV), the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People National Action Plan, as well as Yukon’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit+ People Strategy.
The deadline for applications is Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 4:30 pm Yukon Standard Time. Any form of gender-based violence or sexual violence is unacceptable. It has no place in our society, our workplaces, or our schools. Our government is committed to working together to address and prevent violence against Indigenous women and girls, and we encourage interested applicants to submit their proposals for the Prevention of Violence Against Aboriginal Women fund. The Yukon was proud to endorse the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence in 2022 and we expect to begin formal negotiations with the federal government this spring to determine details of this new funding agreement. I look forward to continuing to work with our equity-seeking and women’s organizations on how we will implement and leverage the Yukon’s portion of the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence.

The Prevention of Violence Against Aboriginal Women (PVAAW) project fund can currently distribute up to $200,000 a year to eligible organizations.
Eligible organizations can seek up to $25,000 in funding.
$150,000 is available to eligible organizations for the 2023-24 intake, while $50,000 has already been allocated to two-year projects that were approved in 2022-23.
