This is a joint news release between the Government of Yukon and Carcross/Tagish First Nation.
On Tuesday, Carcross/Tagish First Nation Ḵaa Shaadé Hení (Chief) Maria Benoit and the Government of Yukon Premier Mike Pemberton signed a government-to-government accord on shared priorities.
The accord enhances the working relationship between the governments and outlines several shared priorities including processes for the planning and management of land and water, health and wellness, housing and infrastructure, economic development, education and intergovernmental relations with the Government of Canada.
Government-to-government accords provide a practical way for governments to identify new and formalize existing initiatives for improving programs and services and meeting the community’s priorities and needs.
This government-to-government accord builds on the foundation of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation Final and Self-Government Agreements. We look forward to working with Carcross/Tagish First Nation to bring tangible benefits to Carcross/Tagish Citizens and all who live in Carcross and the surrounding area.
CTFN is excited to sign the government-to-government accord in the hopes of building a stronger and more inclusive relationship between our governments. This accord has taken a lot of work from both sides and we are looking forward to our current initiatives and future engagements.
