The Government of Yukon and the City of Whitehorse sign new tourism agreement

The Government of Yukon and the City of Whitehorse have renewed their commitment to collaborate on projects related to tourism and culture in Whitehorse through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The new Tourism Partnership agreement identifies a number of opportunities for the City and the Government of Yukon to work together and share information and resources in the promotion and development of Whitehorse and the Yukon as vibrant tourism destinations.

They include:

  • support for local events and infrastructure;
  • utilizing Travel Yukon’s marketing assets and expertise to grow the city’s tourism audience;
  • exploring ways to boost and showcase arts and cultural expression; and
  • promoting inclusion, diversity and reconciliation.

The agreement also commits the two parties to an annual meeting to assess the previous year’s initiatives and cultivate new opportunities.

The new Tourism Partnership MOU is an update of the previous agreement signed by the two parties in 2015 and is structured to better align with the Yukon Tourism Development Strategy and the City’s strategic priority of tourism advocacy.

The Tourism Partnership agreement reaffirms our government’s strong relationship with the City of Whitehorse. It is through alignment and collaboration that Whitehorse and the broader Yukon will benefit from the numerous socio-economic opportunities that tourism presents. I am confident that our collaboration will build the Yukon's tourism sector successfully and sustainably.

Minister of Tourism and Culture John Streicker

Whitehorse is the tourism gateway to the Yukon and tourism is a strategic priority for our community. This agreement outlines a number of opportunities for collaboration that support the growth and development of our tourism economy. I look forward to working together with the Government of Yukon and our partners on continuing to market our City as a world class tourism destination.

Mayor Laura Cabbot
