Government of Yukon continues work to improve Haines Junction water services

The Government of Yukon has completed major upgrades to aging underground infrastructure in the Village of Haines Junction.

The project replaced more than two kilometres of water and sanitary sewer mains, renewed over 80 service connections and reconstructed more than one kilometre of local roads and alleys.

These efforts enhance the Village of Haines Junction’s ability to deliver reliable, safe drinking water and wastewater services for the community and builds on previous work in the municipality.

This project was supported through a commitment of $10 million in combined funding from the governments of Canada and Yukon. Additional phases of water and wastewater infrastructure improvements for Haines Junction are also planned as these projects continue.

Investing in reliable water and wastewater systems is essential to supporting the long‑term health, resilience, and growth of our communities. We are proud to have supported the Village of Haines Junction in upgrading the critical infrastructure residents rely on every day. By working together, we can help communities across the Yukon access safe, modern services that strengthen local quality of life and support future development.

Roads and pipes might be often overlooked infrastructure, but they help keep communities safe, healthy and livable. With these upgrades, Haines Junction will benefit from better roads and more reliable water and wastewater services. Our government is committed to maintaining and upgrading critical infrastructure such as water systems and roads, and we thank the Government of Canada for their continued support with this work.

Minister of Community Services Cory Bellmore

Water and wastewater infrastructure is critical to the wellbeing of Yukon communities. Recent, major, upgrades to our aging infrastructure will allow the Village of Haines Junction to continue to provide safe and reliable drinking water and wastewater services to the community. The Village of Haines Junction is grateful for the Government of Canada’s investment – through the Investing in Infrastructure Canada Program – and the financial and project management support from the Government of Yukon, to complete this work.
