Government of Yukon donates to support Afghanistan humanitarian relief

Today, the Government of Yukon announced a $25,000 donation to help with relief efforts in response to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. The donation was provided to the Canadian Red Cross to support their work with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement in Afghanistan and around the region.

This contribution will help the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Afghanistan in and around the region to provide support to people hit hard by multiple humanitarian crises, including conflict, extreme drought and ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Support may include health care and relief supplies for individuals and families, displaced populations and those experiencing food insecurity. Funds will also be used for immediate and ongoing relief efforts, long-term recovery, resiliency and preparedness for future events in and around impacted regions, including consequential events related to the current crises.

The Yukon stands with the people of Afghanistan during these turbulent times. Thank you to the Canadian Red Cross for their efforts to relieve suffering and bring critical aid to vulnerable Afghans.

Premier Sandy Silver

Right now, millions of people in Afghanistan need humanitarian support as the country is faced with a complex crisis, creating unimaginable turmoil for families who are already doing everything they can to survive. The Canadian Red Cross is grateful for this contribution from the Government of Yukon to provide critical assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
