Government of Yukon hosts Sustainable Communities Forum

The Government of Yukon brought together staff from municipal and First Nations governments for two days of learning, workshops and networking at the Sustainable Communities Forum on October 7 and 8.

Hosted twice a year, the October forum theme was Resilience in Action. Attendees heard from presenters on how governments can support integrated community planning, infrastructure asset management, climate change adaptation and emergency preparedness.

The forum creates space for Yukon communities, First Nations and the territorial government to share practical tools, strengthen relationships and learn from each other.

The Sustainable Communities Forum is made possible with funding from Natural Resources Canada’s Climate Change Adaptation Program.

While each of our communities face unique challenges, there are also shared experiences, and it is pivotal for everyone to learn from each other and hear the experiences of our neighbouring communities. I thank the Government of Canada for their support in helping bring together all communities to discuss common issues and shared opportunities.

Minister of Community Services Cory Bellmore

Communities across the North are on the front lines of climate change and building resilience starts with sharing knowledge, strengthening local capacity and planning for real-world risks like wildfires. Through Natural Resources Canada’s Climate Change Adaptation Program, the Government of Canada is proud to support the Sustainable Communities Forum and our partners in the Yukon as they equip municipal and First Nations staff with the tools they need to protect critical infrastructure, manage community assets and deliver essential services in a changing climate.
