The Government of Yukon is committed to supporting education and growth opportunities of all Yukoners. As part of this commitment, the Yukon government has introduced a new online student financial assistance application portal. This means that post-secondary students from the Yukon can conveniently apply for grants and loans online, check the status of their applications and view funding decision letters, all on one connected and convenient platform.
The transition from traditional paper-based systems to an online format has been a comprehensive and a long-awaited transformation, involving upgrades and enhancements across the entire system for many years. These efforts work towards fulfilling the Minister of Education’s mandate letter commitment to improve access to education for all Yukoners.
The new portal officially launched on July 13, and has already received over 200 applications. The Government of Yukon encourages all post-secondary students to visit the portal and apply for the financial assistance programs that are available. The portal can be accessed here.
The Government of Yukon’s student financial assistance programs support many students in attending post-secondary education institutions in the Yukon and beyond. Students can use the portal to apply for financial support from the Yukon Grant or Student Training Allowance, as well as Canada Student Financial Assistance Loans and Grants.
This system-wide upgrade not only simplifies the processes for students applying for financial assistance, it also represents a significant leap forward in improving access to education for Yukoners. Since launching the portal in July, the Student Financial Assistance team has received over 200 applications and is working non-stop to get funding to students before their studies begin. I look forward to following the positive impact this initiative will have towards enhancing our students' educational journeys.
Minister of Education Jeanie McLean
As eligibility requirements vary and are determined by each student’s situation, Student Financial Assistance (SFA) officers at the Department of Education remain available to work with each student to help ensure they have all they need to apply.
Any students who have already started school but still need support with Student Financial Assistance are encouraged to contact the SFA team directly for immediate and individualized support at [email protected].
Students who need funding before classes start in September should have their completed application submitted before August 11.
